Preflight Printing

Preflight helps determine whether there are any problems in a files construction and submission that will later on preclude from printing correctly. It is important to preflight just prior to file submission.

When you use the Preflight checklist these are some of the areas Preflight checks for. RGB images should be CMYK, making sure that Pantone colors is used, and check ink density. The resolution of the images is correct, missing fonts or images. The Preflight checklist also checks to make sure that the file format such as, Illustrator and InDesign, is appropriate for the job and what the format is. The right scale size and if everything is built to the correct size, is another subject being check. The color bleeds, folds, die-line and glue flaps are created properly. Making sure the graphic images are in a safe area.

Preflight has four basic steps; deciding on preflight criteria for the job, checking against the criteria in the files, fixing the problems, if needed, and releasing the file into assembly. Depending on the specific job, preflight salary averages around $48,000.
